Ten areas of research are changing questions in care, though progress varies by field.
The watchlist
Researchers are studying more targeted medicines, genetic therapies, less invasive diagnostics, remote monitoring, AI-assisted tools, patient-reported outcomes, new vaccine platforms, better rehabilitation, integrated records and more inclusive trial methods. These are areas to watch, not ten treatments ready for every patient.
A useful test of progress
For each innovation, ask whether it improves an outcome patients care about, for whom the evidence applies, what harms are known and whether it can be accessed fairly. A polished demonstration or early study should be a beginning of the conversation. The next decade will be shaped as much by careful evaluation and delivery as by invention.
