Building strength can support everyday function as well as fitness.
Movement that meets you where you are
Strength work can use body weight, resistance bands, machines or weights. Adults are generally advised to include muscle-strengthening activity on at least two days each week, alongside aerobic movement. A beginner may start with simple movements and gradually increase challenge with attention to form and recovery.
Make it safe and sustainable
The right approach depends on mobility, experience and health. A trainer or clinician can help adapt exercises after an injury or with a medical condition. Pain that is sharp or unusual deserves attention. Progress can be measured in easier daily activities as much as in heavier equipment.
