A flexible, plant-forward pattern can be adapted to many kitchens and cultures.
What the pattern includes
A Mediterranean-style approach commonly emphasizes vegetables, fruit, legumes, whole grains, nuts and olive oil, with room for other foods. It is a pattern rather than a rigid meal plan. The practical starting point might be beans in a favourite dish, an extra vegetable side or swapping a refined grain for a whole grain.
Look beyond the label
Research has linked this pattern with cardiovascular benefits, but results depend on the overall diet and other factors. No single meal guarantees a health outcome. People with allergies, dietary restrictions or a condition requiring a special diet should get individualized advice from a registered professional.
